Paper work in Broken Arrow OK. A BIG desk, WIFI, coffee and a patio. What a great day. Marcy in Long Lane MO with her parents.

The back yard patio at Michael's house makes a nice place to relax.

Sean playing his World at War game. Sometimes over 90,000 players world wide. The game is connected to the internet allowing the players to talk to each other as they play. The whole thing is over my head but is fun to watch.

Good bye Best Western

Life is good! We picked up the trailer this morning and moved back in. A room at the Best Western is very nice but nothing like having your own bed. Drove to our next destination of Durant OK and a small park there.

Moving out of Best Western and back into our home.

Looks like we may have some rain and wind for our drive to Durant OK.

Athens, Texas

Still waiting for our home to be repaired. Drove around Athens Texas

A very strange looking RV park in Athens. Each space has a large metal cover for the RV and a smaller cover for vehicles. At the back of the smaller cover is a 10X20 area used for a washing machine/dryer and/or storage. All black top and concrete with a small yard.

The City of Rice Texas

Estimate of $800 to repair our home :-( That seems a little high HMMM? Will take until Thursday or Friday :-( Drove around Corsicana and surrounding area.

Below are pictures of Rice Texas. The main street is empty with one of the buildings being taken apart for the bricks. A very sad sight.

The empty corner drug store

An empty and boarded up Methodist church

The town did have a very large and new looking High School and an operating Elementary School. None of this really made any sense as the houses were old and not very many of them.

We also visited the town Kerens which was laid out and basically built by the railroad back when Cotton was the main crop grown. Now it is a shadow of it's former self.

Casita Factory

Casita Factory!!! Where our Casita was born :-) The 2009 17 ft Casita is a dream. Dropped off the trailer for fiberglass repair caused by the tire blow out. Moved into the Best Western in Corsicanna Texas.

Big TV, Big bed, Big room, Big shower breakfast in the morning and we already miss our little home on wheels.

Drive from Hondo Texas to Livingston Texas

Tuesday, May 5, 2009

Our camp site in Hondo Texas. This is another SKP CO-OP. Our lot did not have a casita on it but most lots do. A casita is a small building used either as a garage, work area, storage, or as a small living room with TV/computer. They may not have a kitchen or bathroom in them. Basically may be used the same a garage would be used in a normal house.

We had our mail sent to us here in Hondo from our PO Box by Jerry. It did not show up Monday when we arrived so we took the opportunity to catch up on some needed chores. Marcy decided that spending a day in her PJ's and reading a book was a much need activity after almost two weeks of driving, setting up, taking down and generally rushing around in a new place every day or two. With great internet WiFi service but poor phone service I sat in front of the computer almost all day. Fun stuff for both of us. I used the little tripod to take a picture of both of us together.

The casita's people put up range from this beauty to simple metal sheds. The lots range from lawns, trees and flowers to dirt. This particular park has some park model RV's but mostly regular fifth wheel's and motor homes, with a couple travel trailers.

One project of high interest to all concerned is the sewer drain holder. I stopped by a hardware store and purchased a white plastic house rain gutter. I had the person cut it in half and then one of the half's in half again. This makes it usable in the different parks we stay at as the sewer drain is always a different length from the trailer. This setup uses all three pieces. I use a bungee cord to hold one end of it at the top and wood and rocks to obtain the correct slope for drainage. When I pack up to go it is attached to the sewer hose tube and held in place by bungee cords. If you would like further info or more pictures regarding this "mod" please feel free to leave a comment or drop me an e-mail.

Drove from Del Rio to Hondo Texas today. No pictures of the drive so I thought I would share some misc pictures I have taken.

I came up with a disguse for my Butt Bucket I leave on the small table outside of the trailer.

We have this on our table in the trailer. We use a Brita water filter and sitting on top is the plant we received from Janis and the neighbors at our going away party. Also the talking/barking dog we take for a walk every day and the LEGO kayaker Matthew gave us for our trip. Just a few reminders of San Diego and of course the beautiful weather you keep telling us about.

Two for the price of one! Just after we set up in Del Rio Texas another 16ft Casita parked right next to us. Nice couple on their way from Texas to San Francisco to see their son. They lost their last 17ft Casita when the wind blew them off the road and into a ditch. Nice thought :-( They spent the night and took off early Sunday morning. The owner of the park came by after church and introduced himself. Nice young man and he thanked us for staying at his park. He asked if the other Casita were friends of ours and then mentioned that they had not paid for the night. I guess this happens from time to time, people come in late leave early and didn't pay. The 10 percent have no age limit :-(
We are seeing lots more Casita's since we entered Texas. They are built in Rice Texas and we plan to stop by the factory after we leave Livingston Escapees park and head up to Tulsa.

Picture of the Pecos river in Rough Canyon just before we came to Del Rio Texas. The Pecos, Rio Grande and another river join together at the Amisted Reservoir to form a huge lake. The shoreline is over 600 miles. The dam is half in US and half in Mexico. Had we known about this jewel we would have planned another day so we could have gone kayaking. Another time.

On the drive from Pecos to Del Rio we stopped in a small town called Sanderson. The info center was closed but they had a nice garden behind the building with the history of Sanderson highlighted on sandstone slabs. Across the street was an old burned out adobe house we just could not resist taking a few pictures of. One shows me running across the street after setting up the camera on a small tripod with the timer on. This is as far as I got in ten seconds :-)

Using the small tripod with the timer we were able to get these pictures. We may have to look for a bigger tripod and figure out how to extend the timer on the camera.

Welcome to Pecos Texas. To all my friends and relatives in San Diego please stop sending me the weather reports. It is 104 and humid here!
We are staying in an Escapees Rainbow park with lots of history. It was originally a trailer park and barracks for WWII bomber crews, then a trailer park and RV park and now just a small RV park. Some full time month to month RV's and people just passing thru for the night. Pecos has gone thru its ups and downs through the years and at present most of the buildings and houses are empty. Sad looking town.
The camp manager is a true desert rat, he lives here year round only leaving for medical care in Oregon when he has to. His wife spends the summer in Oregon with family and returns the end of September. The workamper running the office is a widower from Louisiana and goes by the name "Cajun". Just listening to him talk sounds like music! We are meeting the most interesting people on our travels :-)
The following picture is a reminder that we are staying in 55+ RV parks. This was in the bathroom over the trash can, I couldn't let it pass.
